Social Benefits of Dance for Toddlers & Teens

We love what we do! Every day we get to help kids aged 18 months to 18 years to help grow into better dancers, but also better people. We like to provide insight here on the blog as to why dance is so important to us because we understand not everyone has grown up “in the studio.” Oftentimes kids can feel shy or nervous to get into something new, which is why were are here! To help both kids, and parents understand what it is about dance that is so special to those of us who love it so much.

Today we wanted to touch on a few reasons how Dance can help your child socially..

Dance Encourages Togetherness

Socialization amongst kids can be tough. Friendships form over time, but without socialization, it can become hard for kids to develop strong social skills. Dance is a terrific way to open up your kid into a new world of relationships and friendships that they will keep forever. A place to go, a place to meet new friends, a place to feel connected. In a world of social media and phones and video games, Dance is a truly shining example of a positive social atmosphere.

Dance Teaches Teamwork

Friends are one thing, but teammates are another story. We work with kids from 18 months to 18 years, but regardless of age, we help foster a positive attitude and a group team mentality. Everyone works together to make the magic. Cooperation and responsibility for someone other than yourself can have a profound effect on your child’s social skills. This is not to say it’s “win or go home” either. We have various levels of competition for different personalities and interests. No matter what, we have a program for your child, and they will learn how to be a great teammate, which will help them for life.

Dance Teaches Respect.

Respect for your teammate, respect for your friends, respect for yourself, and respect for your opponent. Any team competition helps to foster these positive values, but dance involves a different level of creative cohesion. When you work to be the best you can be, you start to earn self-respect. When you win, you learn how to respect what you and your team have accomplished. When you lose, you learn how to respect your opponent so you can be better the next time. Win or Learn!

We are truly passionate about what we do here at Dansations. If you have a toddler or teen, it’s never too late or too early to get them involved in dance. It can be a terrific way to help continue developing their minds, creativity, self-respect, and self-confidence. Please feel free to give us a call or fill out our contact form to learn more! We will see you in the studio!
