Career Options for Dancers Beyond Becoming a Professional Dancer

The world of dancing brings a great amount of experience, and with that comes the ability for you to find a great place in many professional careers. In some of our recent blogs, we have talked about how someone can become a backup dancer. We wrote about how someone like Alan Ritchson went from being a dancer in high school to becoming one of Hollywood’s most well-known actors. There are so many traits that dancing gives you that can throw you into a dream career, whether it’s a career related to dancing or another profession not in this industry.

In this blog, we will look at several different types of careers you can choose from that dancing at an early age can help you with.

A List of Careers That Dancing Supports

For you as parents, enrolling your kids in dance classes should feel worth it and make the most out of your kids’ time. Dancing teaches kids many important qualities like confidence, teamwork, discipline, and resilience to challenges. At the end of the day, dancing is not easy; it’s tough to master.

Most importantly, it will go a long way to prepare you for a wide range of future careers. We’ve seen many kids come and go by growing from a dance background using these qualities, even beyond wanting to become a professional performer.

One of the most natural career paths from dancing is teaching. Many dancers grow up to become instructors. Instructors help mentor children, build confidence, and learn perseverance and self-expression. That’s our goal at Dansations every day!

Choreography is a form of teaching, and it is very exciting for anyone who might consider themselves a creative dancer. Choreographers are the people who create the routines for competitions, theater productions, music videos, and live performances. This particular profession is also great because it branches out into other industries you might have an interest in. Arts and entertainment are massive, and there’s a lot out there for you to choose from.

Dance productions rely on talented people who understand the movement in a dance. When you consider that, professions like costume designers, lighting specialists, production designers become more important than you think. Dancing can’t look good if everyone else isn’t on their game. Collaboration amongst these roles is vital! If your kid loves dancing, they will discover a passion for doing more than just the actual act, but to help set up the act as well.

Let’s now talk about a very important topic for your kid, health and wellness. Dancers spend years and years learning about how to dance to make it somewhere. It takes a toll on your body, your mind, and if it’s not properly addressed, it can mess with you.

There are careers where people help provide a level of therapy and fitness training to dancers to stay healthy and active. Dance training encourages this; it’s a big deal! Healthy habits can benefit children for a lifetime if they are addressed early on.

Communication is key, and if you’re the kind of dancer who likes to talk about dancing, there are plenty of careers here. People learn about dancing through forms of marketing, journalism, videography, or photography. Sharing stories about performances and artists who work in dancing is how you get yourself out there while promoting others in a form of networking.

Think about it this way, we talk a lot about how dancing improves confidence, well, that can help you in leadership roles too. Lots of careers need a leader, and leaders like to talk a lot.

But more than anything, perhaps the most encouraging takeaway for you as parents is that dancing is not something that can limit your children. Even if a child never pursues dancing professionally, the lessons learned in class can support success in countless industries. We see kids show these signs very early on, anytime they come into our dance studios. It’s wonderful to see, and it shows we are doing a great job of inspiring them!

That is why joining a dance program like Dansations can be such a meaningful investment. Children gain the friendships you’re looking for them to start at such a young age, where it might be difficult to branch out and find someone who enjoys what you enjoy. At the end of the day, the most important part of this blog is to instill a sense of fun into the process. This should be fun! Dancing is all about fun!
