Best Summer Dance Festivals for Families and Kids in 2026!

Summer is here!! Which means there are endless opportunities for you to get involved in many dance activities and events around the country and here in Buffalo and Western New York. That’s what this season is all about: having fun and spending time off with your kids! What better way to do that than with many different summer dance festivals and dance camps?

With the sun coming out and people around WNY ready to rock, this year’s big events have already started! We’d like to walk you through some great experiences for your kids to have fun, help them learn, and maybe even want to give dancing a try.

In this blog, we will give you a guide to many summer dance festivals we want to highlight that you must attend with your kids in 2026.

A List of Summer Dance Festivals in the U.S.

If your goal is to make sure you help your children fall in love with dance and learn more from, rather than just watch the performances, we’ve got a list of some of the best dance festivals that combine world-class dancers with their unique styles relating to your traditional forms of dancing, as well as ones that relate to their cultures. At the end of the day, so much of dancing is born from many kinds of different cultures from all over the world, so let’s take a look at the list below!

Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival

Jacob’s Pillow is one of the biggest dance festivals in the country! So big that it runs all the way from June 24th to August 30th, taking place in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. It gives you a look at ballet, contemporary dance, tap dance, jazz, cultural dance traditions, and emerging artists from around the world.

The great thing about this campus is that it includes free outdoor performances, family activities, member tours, educational programs, and you can even speak with the dancers. What’s great about it for young kids is that you can actually watch the performers train; this isn’t just about watching the final performance. The festival’s campus and community programs are inspiring if you want to get your kid interested in joining up.

Summer for the City

Presented at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, this fully summer dance festival includes a substantial dance lineup featuring global traditions, social dance events, silent discos, classical music, family programming, and so much more. Children can really take everything in from the contemporary dance traditions of so many countries and cultures while seeing how dance functions as a community activity rather than just a stage performance.

Very similar to what happens at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival! New York City is home to some of the world’s best performers, given that it’s also where Broadway is. If your kid is looking for a place to settle down and learn more, this is the place! Read more about it here: Summer for the City

Fire Island Dance Festival

This renowned event in Fire Island, NY, showcases leading professional dance companies in an outdoor waterfront setting. The format of this event allows kids to see professional dancers up close and experience many different styles in a single weekend, from July 18-19.

A great fact about this event is that it helps raise money for a program called Dancers Responding to AIDS. It’s a nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization that raises money for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses in the United States. A List of Summer Dance Festivals in Buffalo and WNY

Several of those dance festivals that we just listed off are not too far out from where we are, in and out of the state of New York, so now, let’s explore some dance festivals closer to you that are in Buffalo, WNY, and maybe just over the border in Canada. Throughout the summer, this region hosts many cultural festivals, including folk dance demonstrations and other audience-performing events. Young kids are always welcome to show up for these, learn more, and have a lot of fun.

Canalside Summer Programs and Events

With that in mind, you will find everything you’re looking for in one of Buffalo’s biggest and best locations, which is Canalside down by the harbor in the city. This spot is not exclusively dance-focused in the summer, but it does host dance workshops and performance events.

They have the Toddler Techno Beach Rave, a silent disco for kids with three music channels to choose from, taking place Saturday, July 11. Lots of other fun things to look forward to down there if you have the time to make it happen.

Toronto Caribbean Carnival

Just a short drive from outside of Buffalo and into Toronto, this is one of North America’s largest cultural festivals. It’s a full summer-long event, and kids can experience Caribbean dance styles, live percussion, costume design, and community celebrations. It demonstrates how dance can be part of an entire cultural ecosystem rather than a separate art form. This is where so much of dance comes from, and we integrate that every day in our teachings at Dansations.
