How Dance Can Help Your Kids Become Future CEO’s And Succeed in Higher Positions

Did you know that a good percentage of CEO’s have a sporting background? Well, dancing is technically a part of that! Any activity that involves working with people through physical activity, and even when the physical stuff is not involved, you still have to have people who can lead. Dancing helps people succeed in high positions like being a CEO of a company, because not only do you have to keep yourself on your toes, but you have to make sure all the people under you are as well. There’s a connection, and we want to tell you about how we can make that possible for your kids as they grow older!

In this blog, we will explain how dancing can help your kids become future CEO’s and succeed in higher positions.

The Ability to Learn Discipline That CEO’s Require

One thing that’s important to us and our instructors at Dansations is teaching your kids what it means to have discipline. A successful leader is going to need to set goals for their company, along with other tasks like managing time and remaining committed even if things seem slow at first. Dance lessons that we provide are going to create opportunities to develop those, among other qualities, that prove to be great for a future career as a CEO.

Learning a dance routine is a challenge, and it requires a lot of repetition, patience, and attention to detail. This works for competitions as well if your kid wants to compete. These experiences mirror a lot of other professional roles in life. Business leaders have to prepare for a presentation or meet deadlines. If someone makes a mistake, they learn from it and do better the next time, like how a dancer messes up a timed jump in a dance. It’s all about building a great mindset for when you leave our studio!

Examples of Real CEO’s Who Were Once Dancers

More than just speaking to what dance can do for you, kids as they grow older into a professional career, we also have to back up what we are saying with examples of people who did it. Several accomplished executives have built their careers that combine their dance and sporting backgrounds with leadership roles and responsibilities.

Meenakshi Lala is the CEO of a floral delivery company called UrbanStems. Her background consists of at one point being a trained indian classical dancer who specialized in Kathak. Kathak is one of the eight major classical dance forms of India, and she has practiced it since childhood.

In an interview from 2024 with Inc., she talked about how she actually continues to dance on the side of running her business. Her journey is a great representation of how you can do both at the same time and still find success.

Arlene Shuler is the former CEO and president of the New York City Center, which is a major performing arts venue. Before she ran this company, she was also a performer herself who did it professionally with the Joffrey Ballet. This led her into professional life and higher education, law, and arts administration.

In a 2018 interview with Dance Magazine, she explains how her professional career as a dancer helped her become more connected to the executive world and how it remained valuable when working within the same industry for both roles.

Rachel Moore led a life of dancing with the American Ballet Theatre until a tragic injury left her unable to continue dancing. This allowed her to pursue a life of other education, which then led her to become the executive director of American Ballet Theatre and then the president and CEO of the Music Center in Los Angeles.

In an interview with M.M.LaFleur, she reflected on how dancing taught her so many valuable lessons that translated into her leadership role as CEO of the Music Center. Everything about it is important when it comes to learning how to adapt to challenges, learn from good feedback, and deliver on the results that people are looking for.

For parents who are reading this, giving your kids the ability to learn from our instructors allows them to replicate what these examples have produced in their careers. Bringing your kids into dance is so much more than turning them into exceptional performers; it’s also about building them up to be something more. Dancers and athletes in general can do anything they set their minds to because of what they’ve learned through their respective physical activities.

Every rehearsal, dance lesson, competition with a group of other dancers, and more is going to help them grow into the qualities they will need when the time comes to use them in a new profession. At Dansations, we want to train that next generation, and if you have any questions about how we can do that with our activities, give us a call or reach out through our contact form!
