Asking Yourself What To Pack For A Dance Competition? Here’s A Helpful List!
Dance competitions are an all-day event, so planning out what to bring beforehand is essential if you want to make sure you have everything ready to go, before you go. The last thing you want is to realize you forgot something you need for a costume while you’re at the event. Let’s dive in, what to pack for a dance competition?
First thing’s first. Absolutely make sure you have a checklist of what you need, costumes, accessories, lipstick and makeup, remover, basic first-aid, sewing, Dansations logo gear, team jacket, etc. It will be much easier to keep track of what you have packed and brought if you make a checklist before. Make up a bag for your items with plenty of space and pockets.
One of the biggest necessities in your dance competition checklist will be costumes and accessories. Make sure you have everything needed for the costume, sewing kit for small repairs, spare tights in various colors, etc. Some of the key items to include on your checklist for costumes and accessories are:
- Space-conscious sewing kit
- Safety pins
- Lint roller
- Static guard
- Stain removal pen
- Double-sided tape
- Spare tights
- All costume accessories
- Body adhesive
- Different types of shoes needed
For Tap dance, you may also want a screwdriver and polish in your bag.
Beauty Bag Essentials
The next major necessities to consider is your beauty kit. You need your makeup, removers, and other tools and products. Remember, it’s always good to pack spares for your dance competition. Your kit should at least include:
- Hairbrushes and combs
- Bobby pins and elastics
- Hair spray
- Other hair accessories needed
- Makeup and remover
- Nail clippers
- False lash glue
- Deodorant (remember, it’ll be all day!)
- Cotton swabs
Other Dance Competition Kit Necessities
Of course, this list doesn’t have everything. You do need some other items for your dance competition survival bag. Let’s go over those now:
- Snacks (fruit, veggies, granola bars, etc)
- Disinfectant wipes (in the age of COVID you can never be too careful)
- Phone chargers
- Items to relax between routines
Other notes for the dance competion itself:
Hair and make-up must be done to perfection. Hair can not move at all while dancing. Use an excessive amount of gel and finish with tons of hair spray. Use a hair net for the bun. No nail polish. Make-up must be very bold. Fire engine red lip-stick, pink blush, fake eyelashes, eyebrows should have white under brow. In addition to performance and technique, students are judged on costuming. Hairpieces cannot fall out. Accessories cannot be missing. We recommend making a list of everything you need and double (and triple!) check. Keep everything in one garment bag and stay organized!
Remember, it’s not all about winning
Winning is great. Who doesn’t love winning? However, that’s not the whole point. The point is, did you improve and did you have fun. You probably won’t win every dance competition entered, but you will likely improve at your pace. A parent’s job at the event is going to be being positive and cheerful for their dancers.
