Strangers to Friends to Family | Why Dance Can Be So Impactful

There’s something great about dance that many people won’t see the potential in. It’s an aspect of recreational and professional life that will make you realize why you need it. Whenever activities like this foster a sense of community, they tend to flourish for a long time.

In this blog, we explore why dance is so important when you grow up as a kid, how it creates a sense of family, and builds long-lasting friendships.

Building Community is Everything

If you’ve ever been a part of something with multiple people involved, like a school club, a band, or any other group activity, you know that building a sense of community is the most important thing you can do to keep it going.

The shared experiences that come with building a community are endless, allowing it to grow bigger and faster. It also means that everyone involved is on the same page with the goals in mind to build it in the first place. It’s like how dance itself works, when people are in rhythm with each other and can create the dances beautifully, that’s a recipe for everything else to go well.

Creating a Sense of Family

Something else that we pride ourselves on is creating a family. Everyone is family! The kids, our dance instructors, and most importantly, you, the parents who are reading this that have allowed your kids to experience dance in the best way.

Growing up, many of your kids who dance with us probably know each other if they go to school together, are family friends, or know each other from another recreational activity. This means that you grow up together like a family, and you will often see each other dancing a lot during the weeks and months of the year, and it is our job to make sure those relationships last. Your kids want to see their friends all the time, and dance can be that perfect connection for them.

How Dance is Responsible for Creating These Relationships

If you participate in dancing through a group choreographed dance or if you compete in dance competitions, you know how important teamwork and communication are. When these two things are bolstered by positive interactions and encouragement from peers and instructors, you’ll be able to build more confidence in yourself and your ability to trust those around you.

Take ballet as an example, some say it’s the hardest form of dance to learn, especially if it’s being done with a group of people instead of a solo performer. It’s a very demanding form of dance where your physique matters, your timing and coordination, as well as being on your toes with good balance. You’re micromanaging many attributes at once, and if even one is off slightly, it could mean the dance fails. That’s why teamwork is so important! We teach about it all the time, and it is something your kids can learn from and take to other activities that are not dance-related.

How Dansations Will Make You Part of the Dance Family

Our goal is to always make your kids feel like they belong. If we can do that, then they will want to dance even more. Respect, commitment, independence, teamwork, and self-expression are all qualities we want kids to learn and embrace, and we believe that’s how you create a great dance community that will thrive for years to come.

Feel free to reach out to us when you can if you have any questions about competitions, dance classes, dance camps, or any other ways you’d want your kids to be involved with our programs!
